A revised version of Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification, has been released and employers must begin using this form by January 22, 2017. The new form has a revision date of 11/14/16. Prior to January 22, 2017, employers may still use the version of the form dated 3/8/13. We encourage employers to become familiar with the new revision prior to the date it is required to be used and take note of any new or changed information the form requires.
New user fees for IRS installment agreements
Beginning January 1, 2017, the IRS will be changing the user fees taxpayers must pay to enter into an installment agreement. In general, under the proposed rules, the fee for a regular installment agreement will increase from $120 to $225. The fees can be lower if the taxpayer agrees to direct debit as a form of payment or if the taxpayer applies online for an installment agreement. Please be sure to check the new IRS fee schedule for installment agreements for any agreements you enter into after January 1, 2017 to be sure the proper fee is being paid.
Federal Court Delays Implementation of O.T. Rule
On Tuesday November 22, 2016, a federal court judge issued a preliminary injunction temporarily blocking implementation and enforcement the national overtime rule. The OT rule was supposed to become effective December 1, 2016 but is now temporarily on hold pending further court review.
